Placing of the Buddha Relics Ceremony (31 July 2004)

INVITATION TO THE BUDDHA RELICS ON THE FIRST MOVABLE PAVILIONS
On 31 July 2004, the Abbot of Wat Ou Sai Kham held a Sacred Ceremony for Placing Buddha Relics on to the Crown Top Knot of the Buddha Sihing Jade Image. This is grand ceremony and is considered as a Chiang Mai’s historical event, as the Sacred Ceremony for Placing Buddha Relics at Thapea Gate has never occurred in 700 years of Chiang Mai’s history since the beginning of the founding of Chiang Mai city.

The parade started at the Buddhist Association of Chiang Mai which is located on Thapea Road, very near to Nawarat Bridge ( Nakornping River). There were two large movable pavilion with pointed roofs. The first movable pavilion with pointed roof carried the Buddha Relics and the second pavilion carried the Buddha Sihing Jade Image. A great site of memorable event with Chiang Mai female traditional dancers leading the parade, with beating of the drums in the background and with the elderly in white dresses and walking in front of the two pavilions.
