The
Jade Buddha of Wat Ou Sai Kham
After
a very long and extensive search in many countries in South East
Asia by Venerable Phra Khru Phisan Bunniwit, Abbot of Wat Ou Sai
Kham and leader of this project, a very large Jade boulder was found
in Myanmar. This Jade stone weighs 2,572 Kilograms, the Jade boulder
was cut into five pieces, the center piece is 30” wide and 41” high
is carved into a finished Buddha statue by a professional hand carver
with the final dimensions of 29 inches base and 41 inches high.
This finished carving sits on a special base carved from teak wood
and placed in Vihara Hall at Wat Ou Sai Kham for all guests and
foreign visitors to view. This carved Jade Buddha statue is the
largest Myanmar Jadeite in Thailand.
Jadeite - this natural stone is between
141-570 million years old and has several color variations such
as white, yellow, purple, pink, black, gray, blue and different
shades of green from very light to very dark. Some pieces have a
mix of colors and although it is a very hard stone it has a soft,graceful
and beautiful look to the eye and many people desire to own this
precious stone. This Jadeite is from Myanmar which is of the highest
quality in the world. When Buddha was finished a sacred, holy ceremony
with chanting and offerings were performed. On July 31, 2004 a celebration
to commemorate the occassion was held at Thapae Gate.

the Buddha Sihing Jade Image
A hole was
drilled in the Crown top knot of the Jade Buddha Image and lined
with gold. Three small BUDDHA RELICS
were installed in the Crown of the Jade Buddha Image. The Buddha
Relics were received in a sacred ceremony from the Supreme Patriach
of Thailand Somdej Phra Nana Sangwara from Bangkok. The Buddha relics
were received on July 18th and installed on July 31,2004 by Phra
Thep Vissudhikhun, Chiang Mai Chief Provincial Monk; high rankings
government officials, Governor of Chiang Mai province and witnessed
by over 500 people from all over the country at Thapae Gate. The
finished Jade Buddha Image now weighs over 900 kg.
